A vs AAAA Record
A and AAAA records both point a hostname to an IP address. The difference is the IP protocol version they publish.
Updated 2026-08-08A records
An A record returns an IPv4 address such as 203.0.113.10. This is still the most widely expected website address record.
AAAA records
An AAAA record returns an IPv6 address such as 2001:db8::10. Publish AAAA only when the service is reachable over IPv6.
Example
A dual-stack website may publish both A and AAAA records. A visitor with working IPv6 may connect over IPv6, while another visitor may use IPv4.
